The SPPR Committee is made up of no more than nine members, each serving three-year terms, with a mandated rotation of three of the members at the end of each year. The members are nominated by a nominating committee, voted on by the SPPRC, with service beginning January 1. In addition, the lay leader and lay member of the annual conference shall be members. The SPPRC meets no less than four times per year (quarterly) and may meet more often as the need presents itself. The Pastor shall be present at each meeting of the SPPRC.
The SPPRC is basically to Bethlehem First United Methodist Church what the Human Resources Department or the Personnel Department is to private companys or corporations.
The responsibilities of the SPPRC are many, including, but not limited to: Encourage, strengthen, nurture, support, and respect the pastor(s) and staff and their families; to promote unity in the church; to confer with and counsel the pastor(s) and staff on the matters pertaining to the effectiveness of ministry; relationships with the congregation; conditions that may impede the effectiveness of ministry; and to interpret the nature and function of the ministry. Responsibilities further include consultation, evaluation, communication, interpretation with and for the pastor(s), staff and congregation, development and maintenance of job descriptions, monitoring and evaluating pay scales for all levels of employment within the Church and intervening in personnel matters when needed.
